Chandan Das

Chandan Das born on 12th March 1956, Chandan Das, one of the most poulat and prolific performers in the world of ghazal singing today, is essentially a dreamer – shy, introspective, more at home with nature. Clad in Chudidar Kurta his favourite attire, he is happiest on stage enthralling his audience with his inimitable ghazals. He leads a simple life, loves home made food and his favourite 'haunt' as you have guessed is his home.

A devoted family man – ever considerate to the feelings and needs of his wife Yamini and son Namit. Yamini not only looks after his home and hearth but is also very involved with his work. His son Namit would like to follow in his father footsteps and take up a singing career but is as yet undecided.

His idea of a dream holiday is any hill station with his family where he can be one with nature appreciating its timeless beauty, peace and serenity.

Chandan's romance with ghazals began at a very tender age of eight when he came under the tutelage of Ustad Moosa Khan. He took further training of classical music from Pandit Mani Prasad of Delhi.

Chandan's first album was released in 1982, when Mr. Talat Aziz, a famous ghazal singer himself, discovered and introduced him to Music India Ltd. This album was an instant hit and inspired him to release many LP records, cassettes and CDs through Music India Ltd., Padmini Music and T. Series. He has composed music for all is albums and has sung for many popular TV serials and films.

Chandan's achievement can be seen through the awards he has received from his first “Best New Ghazal Singer of 1983” to 2 prestigious SUMU awards under the categories of “Best Ghazal” and “Best Ghazal Singer of 1993” for his cassette “Deewangi”.

Through all his stage performances and release of his albums his aim always been to give his audience good music and he is ever thankful that he has been given this gift of a musician to teach out to people and touch their hearts.
